Dance and film

In this workshop, explore the interface between dance and Video, regardless of a particular dance style.

The workshop will begin with a warm up of the body and lead into a lecture on the practical and artistic challenges of producing a dance film. We will explore the choreographic and cinematic potential of creating dance specifically for the camera. We will work in groups, developing either a linear or non-linear narrative (a storyboard, as we might see in silent films or in the aesthetics of collage, for example). How is the choreography captured in the camera lens? How does the camera interact with the choreography? We question the viewer's perspective.

Smartphones, tablets or digital cameras may be brought along for this workshop.
